COUNSELING FOR THE 2SLGBTQIA+ COMMUNITY IN LITTLETON & ONLINE ACROSS CO + CA

EMBRACE WHO YOU ARE. Unlearn WHO YOU’RE NOT.

While you wish you could feel confident and proud of your identity, the reality isn’t always sunshine and rainbow flags.

Maybe that’s partially because you don’t feel 100% certain that your sexuality or gender are set in stone. Or maybe, it’s because you’re around loved ones who don’t affirm your identity, and you feel forced to excuse the hurtful comments they make about LGBTQIA+ issues to be accepted and survive. You may be in a relationship that once felt affirming but now you’re struggling to express your true self, leading to unmet needs and unspoken frustrations. Trying to control peoples’ perceptions of you and the outcomes of your social interactions is exhausting. You’re left constantly questioning yourself.

Exploring your sexuality, gender identity, or non-traditional relationship structures might be in the back of your mind, but could be daunting if you're worried no one will understand, or it will make you too different. You might find yourself hiding parts of your identity, fearing rejection, and feeling like you’re just faking it through life.

You probably have a few close friends who make you feel whole, accepted, and loved, but can’t seem to find that broader community of “chosen family” that queer people are always talking about. It makes you feel like you’re missing out on something vital.

Together, we can work on cultivating self-love, breaking down harmful beliefs, and creating a life where you feel safe and accepted for who you are.

How we’ll work together

Consider this your invitation to come as you are & start taking up space.

When we begin our work, we’ll start by talking about your experiences growing up—what community, home life, school, and coming out were like for you. We’ll explore how these environments might have fostered fear, self-doubt,  or shame-based beliefs, often through subtle, passive comments or messages. Together, we’ll take intentional steps to heal these old wounds, whether through conversations with family (when safe), writing letters to your younger self, using art to recreate old narratives, or building support in an affirming community.

I want to validate the ways in which social pressure and community structures can make simply “conforming” feel like the safer, easier, and more acceptable choice.

But we’ll challenge these beliefs and explore your own values and perceptions of gender roles, cultural norms, and religious interpretations. Through identifying your values, we’ll look at the ways conforming and minimizing your needs push you away from your true self and your community.

Throughout our sessions, I’ll speak from a place of community, emphasizing our shared experiences as humans and LGBTQIA+ folx. We’ll discuss the interconnectedness of queer oppression with racial violence, misogyny, and systemic rejection. We’ll also delve into queer history, acknowledging the harm we’ve inflicted and witnessed. By recognizing and understanding barriers placed on our identity, as well as our privileges, we can move out of shame and towards deeper community connection. This process will amplify the voices of those most marginalized, helping to dismantle the systems that have marginalized and harmed our identity development from the start.

You can be who you are, make space for yourself in the world, & find a supportive community among like-minded people.

Therapy tailored to the 2SLGBTQIA+ experience can help you…

Learn about yourself

Together, we’ll explore the facets of your identity, experiences, and beliefs. I can provide education about sex, gender, history, and more to help you understand and contextualize your identity.

Set boundaries

We’ll practice and even create scripts for setting boundaries with the people around you. You’ll realize that rejection reflects others’ ability to provide unconditional support, not your worthiness.

Practice radical self-acceptance

Embrace your identity, be okay with the body you’re in—realizing body shape and size isn’t the only way to express gender identity—and create space for you to grow and change as you see fit.

Identify & align with your values

A big part of our work will be looking at what makes you feel fulfilled and what kind of person you’d like to be, so you can align your thoughts and actions.

Embrace fluidity

Your identity and orientation may change or evolve—that’s okay! Change is inevitable, and there’s nothing wrong with not fully knowing yourself at any age.

Release shame

Together, we’ll uncover and process the origins of any harmful beliefs, work to unlearn things that make you feel shameful or guilty, and practice forgiveness for things you did or tolerated in the past to survive.
